Tracks 1 & 2 are listed as coming from the first LP, 'Hawkwind'. Track 2
is an 'excerpt', but isn't identified as from part 1 or 2 as it is listed
on the 'Hawkwind' LP.
Track 3 is also on 'In Search of Space', although this is a live version,
recorded on 22-Dec-72 at Liverpool Stadium, the same set as used for the 'Earth
Ritual' LP (their greatest IMHO), and not previously available.
Track 4 was recorded live at The Roundhouse on 13-Feb-72. Interesting that
it was never included on the 'Doremi Fasol Latido' studio LP (later '72),
or as part of the 'Earth Ritual' set.
Track 5 is the single released in April '73, as the followup to Silver Machine,
debuting at no. 34 in the charts. It was withdrawn two weeks after release when
it coincided with a series of terrorist bomb attacks in London.
Track 6 is lifted straight from 'Doremi', 7 from 'Hall of the Mountain Grill'
and 8 from 'Warrior on the Edge of Time'. Track 8 has reappeared in more modern
Hawkwind LPs as Void of Golden Light, e.g. 'The Business Trip'.
Whilst a good compilation, it is just a compilation. Except for tracks 3
and 4 these are just tracks lifted from other albums. However, those are tracks
that the real Hawkwind fan will want in his collection. It's interesting how
Silver Machine, although a big hit, has never really featured in their own
estimation, as witnessed by how few times it appears on any albums or live
sets.
