This is a compiliation of 4 extended singles (I have them all in 12inch
form, but there may have also been 7 inch versions).
The first 3 tracks are from the "Hawkwind Zoo" single, and date from 1981,
Kings of Speed, being live, with no vocal. Hurry on Sundown is first demo
recording made by Hwakwind for U.A., and is different to the version released
on their first album (so the sleeve notes say).
Tracks 6-9 are from the Earth Ritual Preview, all written by Brock, except
the last, which is written by Huw Lloyd-Langton. I really like his stuff, and
the times he's with Hawkwind is some of their best. He brings a bigger dimension
with his guitar, which allows Dave to concentrate more on the synths and driving
rythyms that are a Hawkwind trademark.
The final tracks are from the Sonic Assassins e.p. This dates back to their
tour of the US which went very badly, and Hawkwind had technically broken
up. Brock and Calvert formed a new band, with some tracks that were eventually
realeased on PXR5, some years later.
Overall, there are some interesting tracks, but if you already have the
vinyl e.p.s then there is nothing new, and you'd have to be a real fan to
buy it again. If not, then it's worth getting.
