WordPress update

I’ve been using WordPress for a few months now, and I’m more and more impressed with it. This evening I upgraded to v3.0 (after taking a back-up – never try ‘x.0′ of anything), which completed without a hitch. I’ve also changed the theme to something different. Just because it makes it so darned easy to do so.

Here’s the latest stats. I guess Alfred must still be causing hits….

Web site stats again

I was checking the web site stats this morning (attention whore that I am….) and the daily graph had a huge spike on 12/07. I mean 10 times the normal ~100 page hits per day – almost 1500 page hits. OK, what happened, what did I do….

Eric has pointed out that I got a call out onĀ Alfred’s Best of the Blogosphere for a couple of the game reports I posted. Ah, that would explain it….

Spot the Essen impact…..

Macromedia Contribute

I’ve been using a demo of Macromedia Contribute to edit web pages for the past few days. Interesting, but not as good as DreamWeaver (duh!). I’m not sure if I like the editing web pages directly from the web site, as it means I have to be connected to do anything. It would be better when out on the road to be able to work off-line. It also seems quite flaky and has crashed a couple of times when it couldn’t connect or lost the conection. Not good.

However, that aside, it seems to work OK, and does exactly what I need, so I may go for it yet.

Essen webcam page

OK, I’ve been playing with ImageCaster, and I’ve got a webcam page added to my Essen Spiel report page. I’ll certainly be trying to run this whenever I have wireless access (preferably free).

Pretty impressed with ImageCaster so far. Very easy to set up and appears to do exactly what it says it does. At only $30 it’s a tool I’ll be buying.

I was going to blog everything from Essen through here, but I decided to add a special section to the web site instead. So check out my Essen Spiel 2005 Repor>. There should be game reports, pictures and the occasional video report. If I find free wireless access I’ll even try to put up a live web cam, but I’m not holding my breath on that one.

I’ll still be doing blog entries, although they may be short and sweet. Heck, I’ve still got to keep up with all things Apple and anything else that catches my interest.

One more thing….

Well, one more toy in this case. I decided to splash on an iSight camera to go with the iBook for Essen. That will allow me to create a video blog/diary and if I can find free wireless I’ll try to set up a permanent webcam from the Sunriver booth, hotel, whatever. Most likely it will just be movie clips of the fair, Sunriver Games booth, evening gaming and Essen in general. Or whatever I find interesting.

I’ve already proved that Cathy and I can do audio chats over iChat with it installed. Hmm, I wonder if the iBook is capable of that already?

Anyway, I’ve got a demo copy of ImageCaster to play with downloading webcam pictures to the web site, and that seems to work. I’ve just got to put it in an HTML page and set it to refresh automatically. Shouldn’t be too hard. It’s only $30, so I just might upgrade and play with it while in airports on the way. I’m also found that there is a free QuickTime upgrade (QuickTime Broadcasting) that allows you to capture video direct to file. So, I’m going to try to create movies from various locations over the week and post to the blog.

It’s all very geeky!

As may be expected, I spend a fair amount of time not only playing games, but reading about games. Other than BoardGameGeek, one that I check every day is the GameWire Weblogs (link no longer available), part of the Gamefest online game retailer. This has a different blogger each day of the week, which introduces a nice element as each blogger has a different focus and style.

Anyway, the most recent entry for Tom Vasel was about how blogs have become where the majority of his online reading is done and he then went on to list some of his favorite blogs. I wasn’t surprised to see Chris Brooks’ blog listed, but I was totally floored to see this blog also mentioned. Wow.

Tales of Future Past

I came across this little gem linked from David Parmet’s blog. It was such an interesting read that I thought I’d pass it on, so I hope you enjoy Tales of Future Past.
